Last week at white belt?
My son and I just got our yellow belt test forms for this weekend. It’s been an interesting 30 lessons over ~3ish months.
Since the last update, we’ve survived covid (ugh), several bouts of “I only want to go once a week now,” and demands to go to the kids-only classes. I’ve mostly relented on the last point, but I’ve noticed that the kids-only classes are more of a babysitting service than a sport or activity. They’re only marginally constructive. I tend to split my son’s practices between the kids-only and all-ages sessions to keep him engaged.
We more or less both have the Chon Ji TKD form down without a mistake. My son is doing it too fast, because “if I slow down, I forget it,” but the right fundamentals are there. I feel like the poomsae/forms can’t be easy for kids, because they don’t yet have the sense to be logical about the shape they’re making. It seems to be all rote for young children.
The other aspects of the test seem pretty rudimentary. I can count to ten in Korean without too much of an issue, and my son can get to a solid seven. The kicks, blocks, and punches are also not too bad. My kid is having some trouble getting his kicks off the ground, but you can’t really expect too much for a six year old.
Ah well, we’ll see what happens after the test this weekend.
